Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Adjustment of a joint may result in release of gas bubbles between the joints that make a popping sound – it’s exactly the same as when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint that results in gas bubbles being released. There is no pain involved.

Myths About Chiropractic Care
As successful as chiropractic care has become, there are still a lot of myths circulating among the general public. This has led to discrepancies about what exactly a chiropractor does. Hopefully, we can put an end to your confusion today.
Myth #1: Chiropractic adjustments are dangerous.
When performed by a chiropractic physician, chiropractic spinal adjustments are extremely safe. They are among the safest treatments for most back and neck problems. Chiropractic care is also safer than surgery or pain killers any day of the week, and several other specialists will recommend seeing a chiropractor before deciding on a surgery.
Myth #2: Once you go to the chiropractor, you will always have to go.
Once you go to the chiropractor, you will always have to go. Some patients come in for a few visits and discontinue treatment once they have obtained the relief they were seeking. Others, however, choose to continue with treatment as they find that it gives them an increased level of health and vitality. Many choose to continue chiropractic care as part of a healthy lifestyle, and consider it the same as going to a dentist, the gym, or eating a healthy diet.
Myth #3: Chiropractors are not real doctors.
Like other types of medical doctors, chiropractors must undergo specialized training. Chiropractic students receive thorough and demanding college instruction that is similar to other medical doctors minus the focus on pharmacology and surgery, which is not all there is to being a doctor. In their four to five years at a chiropractic college or university intensive focus will be given to anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, and nutrition and public health. At the end of it all, they must still pass state and national certifications to become licensed.
Myth #4: Your bones grind against each other during an adjustment.
The noise heard during an adjustment is the release of CO2 gas from the spine that creates the popping sound that occurs.

Myth #5: Spinal adjustments hurt.
Spinal adjustments can on occasion feel like someone is pressing on a bruise, and the body can sometimes have a little discomfort as it adapts to the adjustment. However, most patients state a feeling of instant relief after their treatments. However, patients suffering from severe back or neck pain may already be experiencing some discomfort as should be expected, but this is not the case for most patients.

Myth #6: Chiropractic is only for adults.
Actually, chiropractic can make an impact on anyone's health from newborns to the elderly. When nerve interference is reduced, the body is able to thrive no matter what age the person is.

Myth #7: Chiropractic is only beneficial for back pain.
While some chiropractors only focus on patients who have back pain, it is not the only benefits of chiropractic. Many do not realize that chiropractic can also make a major improvement to other areas of the body such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. Also, chiropractic works to treat more than pain. It has been known to help those suffering from asthma, ADD, blood pressure issues, carpal tunnel, colic epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral palsy. The overall goal of chiropractic is to help people get out of pain and keep them healthy.

Myth #8: If it is a trend, then it is a long-standing one.
Chiropractic as it stands now has been in existence for over 100 years. It is the largest drug-free form of health care, and the third largest form of any health care in North America.

Myth #9: There is no scientific proof that it works.
There are actually hundreds of studies that exist proving its validity in improving the health of people. These studies have shown that chiropractic has positive benefits on increasing immune function, increased brain function, and general well-being in the elderly.

Myth #10: Chiropractic treatment rarely works.
Millions of people have actually had great results from regular chiropractic treatment. Among them are numerous professional athletes such as Tiger Woods, Jerry Rice, Usain Bolt, Aaron Rodgers, Lance Armstrong, Tom Brady, Johnny Damon, and Dan O'Brian.
